DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug rehab programs are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be required to go to rehab either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
