Criminal justice clients are individuals who are in any type of drug treatment center because of a drug or alcohol related crime. This can occur for instance when someone is convicted of drunk driving or DWI, or for any other kind of drug related crime which has led the court to think the individual has any kind of substance abuse issue. Not every person has the option of taking part in an alcohol and drug treatment center as a criminal justice client, however, if this approach is ordered through the court it is strongly advised that the individual do everything they are able to to take full advantage of this opportunity. Oftentimes, other penalties and consequences can be totally eradicated or lessened in the event the individual does well in treatment and completes the drug rehabilitation program that has been ordered for them. First-time offenders are the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been determined that criminal justice clients that do experience rehabilitation in place of other penalties have significantly lower recidivism rates than those who are ordered to jail time or receive other penalties. Eventually, it saves a legal court system both time and expense when criminal justice clients receive effective rehab.
