DUI/DWI clients who're involved in alcohol and drug treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug abuse if they drive while intoxicated later on.
