DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be ordered to rehabilitation either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the courts than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while intoxicated in the future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
