DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment facilities are either there by their own choice, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehab due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be required to go to treatment either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This can truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their substance abuse when they drive while drunk or high in the future. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
