DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug treatment due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders might be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high later on. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
