DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug treatment as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of remaining out from the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high in the future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
