DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug rehab as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This may certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
