DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their substance abuse whenever they drive while under the influence down the road.
