DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be required to go to rehab either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their substance abuse whenever they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
