DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be ordered to rehab either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This may certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high down the road.
