DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug rehab as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could be ordered to rehabilitation either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of remaining out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
