DUI/DWI clients who're involved in alcohol and drug rehab facilities are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be ordered to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of staying out from the courts than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This may certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while drunk or high later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
