DUI/DWI clients who're involved in alcohol and drug treatment centers are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be required to go to rehab either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
