DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could possibly be ordered to rehabilitation either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their substance abuse when they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
