Criminal justice clients are people who are in any type of drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility as a result of a drug or alcohol related criminal offense. This will happen for example if a person is found guilty of a DUI or DWI, or any other type of drug related crime that has led the court to think that the individual has any sort of drug or alcohol use issue. Not everybody has the option of getting involved in a drug and alcohol treatment program as a criminal justice client, however, if this approach is ordered through the court it's strongly advised that the individual try everything they are able to to get the most from this opportunity. Most of the time, other penalties and consequences may be completely eliminated or lessened in the event the individual does well in rehab and finishes the drug treatment program which has been ordered for them. New offenders would be the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been established that criminal justice clients that do experience rehab in lieu of other penalties have much lower recidivism rates than people who find themselves ordered to jail time or receive other penalties. In the long run, it saves the court system both time and money when criminal justice clients receive effective treatment.
