DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but usually in alcohol and drug treatment as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could be ordered to treatment either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the court system than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
