DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment centers are either there on their own accord, but generally in drug treatment due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be required to go to treatment either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while intoxicated down the road. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
