DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug treatment centers are either there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be ordered to treatment either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug abuse. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their substance abuse should they drive while drunk or high in the future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
