DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse when they drive while under the influence down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
