DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug rehab centers are either there by their own choice, but usually in drug treatment as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could possibly be ordered to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out from the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while under the influence later on.
