DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol treatment centers are generally there by their own choice, but usually in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be ordered to treatment either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out from the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while under the influence later on. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
