DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment centers are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in alcohol and drug treatment as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
