DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug treatment facilities are either there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug rehab due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders might be ordered to treatment either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of remaining out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug abuse. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse when they drive while drunk or high later on.
