DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment centers are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders might be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of staying out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while drunk or high in the future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
