DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities are either there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of remaining out from the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug abuse when they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
