DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but usually in drug treatment due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders might be ordered to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while drunk or high in the future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
