Criminal justice clients are people who are in any kind of alcohol and drug rehabilitation program as a result of a drug or alcohol related criminal offense. This can occur for example if someone is found guilty of a DUI or DWI, or any other type of drug related criminal offense that has led the court to believe that the individual has any type of substance abuse issue. Not everyone has the option of getting involved in an alcohol and drug rehabilitation facility as a criminal justice client, but when this option is ordered through the judge it's strongly advised that the individual do everything they can to benefit from this opportunity. In many cases, other penalties and consequences can be completely eliminated or lessened if the individual succeeds in treatment and finishes the drug and alcohol treatment program which was ordered for them. First-time offenders would be the most probable criminal justice clients because it has been determined that criminal justice clients that do take part in treatment instead of other consequences have much lower recidivism rates than those who are ordered to jail time or similar consequences. In the end, it saves the court system both time and money when criminal justice clients obtain effective rehabilitation.
