DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug rehab due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could possibly be required to go to rehab either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
