DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment centers are generally there on their own accord, but usually in drug rehab as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be required to go to rehab either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of staying out from the courts than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug abuse. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their substance abuse should they drive while under the influence down the road. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
