DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug rehab programs are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders might be required to go to treatment either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of remaining out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
