DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug rehab facilities are generally there by their own choice, but usually in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could possibly be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their substance abuse when they drive while intoxicated later on.
