DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of remaining out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while drunk or high later on.
