DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could be ordered to rehab either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug abuse should they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
