Dual diagnosis can be a circumstance in which two independent disorders are present, and most often describes a co-occurring drug abuse and mental health disorder. A dual diagnosis might help an individual who might not have been able to be helped during the past, finish drug or alcohol abuse because they can be accurately diagnosed and helped. Their mental health disorder may have been misdiagnosed, undiagnosed, or treated incorrectly which may have prompted and resulted in their drug abuse problems. Establishing the truth that someone is actually a dual diagnosis client not merely helps establish an efficient treatment plan for them, but may also help clients better determine what triggered their drug abuse and the way to prevent it down the road. Handling dual diagnosis might be a more extensive process compared to a typical drug rehab program, and folks with a dual diagnosis might be required to take part in an extensive aftercare program which may include appropriate medical support along with continued rehabilitation services. Being identified as having co-occurring disorders doesn't mean that the individual will have to be medicated for the rest of their lives either, and in reality lots of people with a dual diagnosis experience far better results when treated holistically and when alternative treatment solutions are employed.
