DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol treatment due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be required to go to rehab either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while intoxicated later on. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
