DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment facilities are generally there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be ordered to treatment either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their substance abuse should they drive while intoxicated later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
