DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment facilities are either there on their own accord, but usually in drug rehab as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders may be ordered to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of staying out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while under the influence down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
