DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of remaining out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use.
