DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities are generally there on their own accord, but usually in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could possibly be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of staying out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their substance abuse whenever they drive while under the influence down the road. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
