DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug rehabilitation programs are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug rehab due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders might be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their substance abuse when they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
