DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in drug and alcohol rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be required to go to rehab either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high in the future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
