DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol rehab centers are either there on their own accord, but usually in drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could be ordered to rehabilitation either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of staying out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their drug abuse should they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
