DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of staying out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while intoxicated down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
