DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug rehabilitation centers are either there on their own accord, but usually in drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could possibly be ordered to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug abuse if they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
