Criminal justice clients are individuals who are in any kind of drug rehabilitation program because of alcohol or drug related criminal offense. This will occur for example when someone is found guilty of a DUI or DWI, or for any other kind of drug related offense that has led a legal court to think that the individual has any sort of substance abuse issue. Not everyone has the option of getting involved in an alcohol and drug treatment program as a criminal justice client, but when this approach is ordered from the court it is strongly advised that the individual try everything they can to get the most from this opportunity. In many cases, other penalties and consequences can be totally eliminated or lessened if the individual does well in treatment and finishes the drug and alcohol rehabilitation program that is ordered for them. New offenders would be the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been proven that criminal justice clients that experience rehab instead of other consequences have much lower recidivism rates than people who find themselves ordered to incarceration or receive other penalties. Ultimately, it saves a legal court system both time and expense when criminal justice clients receive effective rehabilitation.
