DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug rehabilitation facilities are generally there by their own choice, but usually in drug treatment due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could possibly be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
