DUI/DWI clients who're involved in drug treatment facilities are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug rehab due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug abuse should they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
