Outpatient treatment gives treatment clients the opportunity to sustain certain responsibilities and elements of their way of life while getting involved in alcohol and drug rehabilitation services. Outpatient treatment is a moderate level of rehabilitation, and should not be mistaken for the amount of rehabilitation offered within an inpatient or residential rehab setting which can be significantly more intensive. Outpatient treatment could be suitable for someone who has a brief history of substance abuse for example, but will almost certainly not be sufficient for somebody whose rehabilitation needs go beyond what outpatient treatment is able to offer. Individuals involved in drug and alcohol use often need a considerable environmental change, because many of the things which prompt their drug abuse are strictly environmental. As an example, if a person has been physically or emotionally mistreated and this is prompting their substance abuse, there is no way for any rehabilitation endeavours to achieve success if they go back to such situations on a daily basis. In outpatient treatment, clients can benefit from group and individual counseling, in addition to family counseling services. In outpatient treatment, most programs will provide services six or seven days a week on either a part-time or full-time schedule for four weeks or longer in some cases.
