DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug rehab due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could possibly be ordered to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the court system than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
